VMQ Silicone O-Ring
Compression set is what kills seals prematurely — and VMQ solid silicone consistently delivers values in the 10–30% range, well below EPDM or neoprene alternatives, keeping dishwasher connectors, coffee machine brew-group seals, and water heater gaskets leak-free across thousands of thermal cycles. Description:
For static O-ring seals, tensile strength and tear resistance matter — but compression set is the governing parameter. An O-ring compressed between two mating surfaces must continuously exert contact pressure to prevent leakage. If the elastomer takes a permanent set — losing its elastic memory — that contact pressure drops below the minimum sealing threshold, and the leak begins. VMQ silicone’s polydimethylsiloxane backbone, with its low glass-transition temperature and high backbone flexibility, resists this permanent deformation even after prolonged loading at elevated temperature. Compression set values of 15–20% at 175°C × 70h are routinely achieved on Micune’s optimized peroxide-cure compounds — measurably better than standard EPDM or neoprene grades in the same temperature regime.
Typical Industry Applications:
Proven performance across demanding manufacturing environments.
| Industry | Typical Use Cases |
|---|---|
| Home Appliances | Dishwasher inlet/outlet connector O-rings, washing machine pump seals, steam iron gaskets, water dispenser valve seals |
| Food & Beverage Equipment | Coffee machine brew-group and boiler seals, water purifier filter O-rings, milk frother pump gaskets (GB 4806.16-2025 compliant) |
| Automotive & Motorcycle | Coolant circuit O-rings, EV battery coolant plate seals, windshield washer pump gaskets |
| Construction & Architecture | Solar thermal collector loop seals, underfloor heating manifold O-rings |
| Electronics & Industrial Machinery | Pneumatic valve body seals, hydraulic cylinder static seals in clean-room environments |
Chemical Resistance Table:
| Chemical / Medium | Resistance | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Water (cold/hot, ≤100°C) | ✅ Excellent | Core appliance use case; no swelling or degradation |
| Steam (intermittent, ≤130°C) | ✓ Good | Peroxide-cure grades preferred; avoid sustained steam above 120°C |
| Dilute acids (pH ≥ 3) | ✓ Good | Suitable for mild descaling agents in coffee machine cycles |
| Dilute alkalis (pH ≤ 11) | ✓ Good | Covers most appliance detergent environments |
| Concentrated sulfuric / nitric acid | ✗ Not recommended | Backbone degradation under prolonged exposure |
| Concentrated caustic (NaOH >20%) | ⚠ Limited | Acceptable for brief contact only; monitor for swelling |
| Animal and vegetable oils/fats | ✅ Excellent | Relevant for food-equipment pump seals |
| Aliphatic mineral oils | ⚠ Limited | Moderate swell; not recommended for continuous oil immersion |
| Aromatic hydrocarbons (toluene, xylene) | ✗ Not recommended | Significant swell and strength loss |
| Chlorinated solvents | ✗ Not recommended | Not suitable |
| Household detergents / surfactants | ✅ Excellent | Dishwasher detergent cycle resistance verified |
| Ethanol (≤ 20% aqueous) | ✅ Excellent | Common in food-equipment sanitizers |
| Ketones (acetone, MEK) | ⚠ Limited | Short contact tolerable; avoid for process seals |
| Ozone / UV / weathering | ✅ Excellent | Siloxane backbone inherently ozone-resistant |
| Silicone fluids and oils | ✅ Excellent | No interaction; stable in silicon-fluid-lubricated assemblies |
